As the region of Mococa experiences the ongoing impacts of climate change, the need for sustainable, climate-adapted agriculture is more critical than ever. Unpredictable weather patterns and rising temperatures challenge both urban neighborhoods and the surrounding rural fazendas (farms).
In past projects across Mococa, we saw firsthand how planting resilient, food-producing fruit tree varieties creates a vital buffer against a changing climate. In urban areas, these trees cool ambient temperatures, provide shade, and offer fresh, organic produce directly to local families. In the surrounding rural agricultural lands, integrating adapted fruit trees helps retain soil moisture, prevent erosion, and diversify crops, strengthening the overall ecological health of the region.
We are eager to return to Brazil and expand on the successful foundation established during our previous visits. However, because this project relies on dedicated funding to launch new planting initiatives, we need your support to make our return possible.
