Women's Empowerment, Vegan Transition, Sustainability

By Brenda Bukoma Nabifo | President/Founder of Ethical Vegan's Community

Dear Donors,

Over the past three months, our women’s empowerment initiative has made meaningful progress in supporting women to transition from selling animal products to building compassionate, sustainable, and cruelty-free livelihoods. Through education, hands-on support, and donor generosity, women who once relied on the meat trade are now thriving as plant-based food vendors and fresh produce entrepreneurs.

This report highlights the inspiring journeys of Nuruh and Sandra, alongside the broader impact of our veganic empowerment program.

Story Spotlight: Nuruh’s Journey to Compassion

Nuruh is a talented and resilient woman who once sold meat and animal-derived products on the streets to support her family. While this work provided income, it also contributed to animal suffering, environmental degradation, and conflicted with her growing values of compassion.

Through persistent engagement, education, and support from our team, Nuruh made a courageous decision to change her path.

A New Chapter

With donor support, we provided Nuruh with:

A vegan food cart

Start-up financial assistance

Ongoing mentorship and education

Today, Nuruh has fully embraced a vegan lifestyle and now sells delicious plant-based meals and sustainable products. She has become a powerful advocate for veganism and sustainability within her community, inspiring others through her example.

Story Spotlight: Sandra’s Transformation

Sandra, a 30-year-old mother, previously sold roasted chicken on the streets, killing an average of eight hens every day to make ends meet. Like many women, she had limited alternatives despite the emotional and ethical toll of her work.

After connecting with our team, Sandra received education, encouragement, and practical support to transition into a new livelihood.

A New Chapter

With donor contributions, we supported Sandra with:

A fruit stand

Financial start-up assistance

Guidance toward a vegan lifestyle

Sandra is now earning a living without animal slaughter and is committed to continuing her journey of compassion and sustainability.

Program Impact: Empowering More Women

Beyond individual stories, our project has supported multiple women in transitioning from meat selling to veganic and plant-based enterprises.

Key Achievements This Quarter:

Women trained in vegan food preparation and veganic business practices

Start-up capital provided for fresh produce and plant-based businesses

Partnership with Plenty Food Nederland, securing space in a major market

Expanded market access, allowing women to reach more customers and increase income

These efforts have helped women gain independence, dignity, and stable livelihoods while reducing animal cruelty and environmental harm.

Why Your Support Matters

Many women (and men) in Uganda still rely on the meat trade due to lack of alternatives. For just $170, one woman can be empowered with:

Training and skills development

Start-up capital

Tools and resources for a cruelty-free business

Access to markets and customers

Each transition represents fewer animals harmed, healthier communities, and stronger women-led businesses.

Thank You to Our Donors

To our incredible donors and partners: thank you.

Your generosity has:

Changed lives

Created sustainable income opportunities

Promoted veganism and environmental protection

Strengthened women-led initiatives rooted in compassion and justice

Because of you, women like Nuruh and Sandra are no longer trapped in harmful livelihoods—they are thriving, hopeful, and inspiring others.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, our goal is to expand this program to reach more women and men seeking compassionate alternatives. Together, we can continue building a kinder, more equitable, and sustainable Uganda.

Every contribution counts. Every life matters.

Thank you for standing with us on this journey.

Empowering Women. Enriching Lives.

Warm regards,

Brenda
