We are happy to announce the project had a very good start in the New Year and are very grateful to everyone who has been part of this !
We continue working towards giving the children a home, either by adoption within Kenya or reuniting them with able family members.
It has been such a pleasure to see how children who have been adopted within the country, have changed when they come to visit with their parents. The level of confidence and happiness is just amazing and very encouraging for the housemothers and fathers who have been part of rescuing the children and their initial care.
Its also been great to know so many couples/families are willing to adopt children, sometimes as they don’t have children of their own or they simply would like to give a child a chance to grow up within their family.
We are looking forward to meet little Rita and her adoption parents during an upcoming get together!
Sam has recently been reunited with his grand-mother, a fairly young lady who was thrilled to find out about his existence and very happy to take him to their family home. Returning children to their family homes requires intensive family-centered services to support and secure a safe and stable environment.
Each situation is different and our social worker works hand in hand with the child welfare and children’s department to make sure a reunion is successful. Once the Court has given the green light, the process can start.
We also welcome some new members to the DCV family, Fifi ( 4 months ) and Dorcas ( 7 months ) who are both doing very well. Like with the other little ones, investigations are in process and we hope to find a lasting solution for the babies soon.
Sometimes children are being placed into the Home’s custody due to signs of abuse, child trafficking or a family dispute, this can be for a short or longer period of time depending on each case.
As the cases can be very sensitive we have to make sure the children are safe when at the project.
Recently we were blessed with a fantastic donation which will make it possible to build a perimeter wall around the entire compound. Construction is currently underway.
The construction of a new water tower has also started, the old one was about to collapse and the help couldn’t have come at a better time.
Ishmael has been very busy at the furniture workshop with orders to make beds, cupboards, bar stools, doors, frames and other items. The layers still produce a good number of eggs on a daily basis!
The workshop and egg project continue to play an important role in ensuring some self-generating income for the project.
General landscaping is also being worked on, some better and safer playing areas are being created and at the same time the grounds will look more neat and practical.
On behalf of the children and the DCV team we thank you for your continued and amazing support!
