Dear Friend,
Hope you are doing well.
With this email, we are sharing with you the updates for the project “Help rescue wild animals and birds in India”. Thank you so much for your generous contribution to this project and for believing in our work. We are so glad to have you as a part of our team.
In July, the Plachery Forest Department in Kerala, approached WTI for equipment support to handle the increasing number of wildlife displacement cases during the monsoon season.
The Forest Department was facing a shortage of equipment and field gear necessary to conduct rescue operations. Through a Rapid Action Project (RAP), we provided the Forest Department with the following equipment- a trapping cage, a large rope, a net for lifting animals accidently trapped in wells, 3 catchpoles, 3 snake rescue kits, 3 flashlights, 5 headlamps, 5 pairs of safety shoes, raincoats, veterinary medicines as well as food supplements for the rescued animals. The equipment and tools were basically provided for responding to rescue calls of smaller mammals and reptiles.
With this support, the Plachery FD has conducted 73 rescues in the reporting period. The species handled by the department include – Pythons, common palm civets, jungle cats, Brahamani kites, golden jackals, trinket snakes, common macaques, cobras, Indian rat snakes, wild boar, sand boas, barn owls, porcupines, and an Indian Jackal.
Timely interventions in these cases saved the lives of so many wild animals. All this was made possible because of your support, for which we are very grateful. We will soon get back to you with more updates on this.
Till then, take care.
Warm regards,
Team WTI
