Aditi lost her mother at just five years old, she was raised by a stepmother who showed little care for her. Her father was no different, as an alcoholic, his distance left her yearning for a safe haven.
For Aditi, school was her only refuge. It was a place of learning, laughter, and safety—her sanctuary from the harsh realities at home. But that place of hope and refuge was taken away when her family forced her to leave school after the 4th grade. Vulnerable and exploited in the slums, Aditi lived a reality no child should ever have to. Neglected, scorned, abused, and feeling utterly alone, Aditi decided to end her life. Thankfully, she survived.
At 15, after fleeing her home and navigating harrowing situations, Aditi eventually found her way to our safe house through the help of a kind-hearted police officer. This was the beginning of Aditi’s transformation.
Upon entering our safe house, Aditi threw herself wholeheartedly into learning and growing. Slowly but surely, she began to reclaim her confidence and make strides in her education. From progressing in reading fluency and math to actively planning for her 10th-grade registration with her mentor, every milestone fueled her sense of purpose.
Equipped with extra worksheets and one-on-one English sessions, Aditi showed extraordinary commitment and perseverance. These small but significant steps began to shape not just her knowledge but also her outlook on life.
Because of your generosity, Aditi’s life has taken a remarkable turn. Once overwhelmed by neglect and despair, she now has access to education and skills training but also the emotional and social support needed to rebuild her life.
Thank you for being the reason Aditi can look forward to a life of dignity and opportunity!
