The sound of laughter rang through the warm, sunlit courtyard as Kalpana embraced her relatives, years of separation melting away in the comfort of their arms. It was a day she once thought she’d never see.

A day filled with love, shared humanity, and the closeness of family she had been denied for so long.

         Behind her radiant smile lies a story of unimaginable hardship and a remarkable transformation made possible because of doors you opened for Kalpana to exit the sex trade.

At 11 years old, she was married off, and by 15, she became a mother. Despite her hard work as a daily wage laborer, it was never enough to support her family. Desperate for a better living, she set out in search of opportunities—only to find herself trapped in a nightmare.

         At 17, Kalpana was lured out of Nepal with false promises of employment. Her captors drugged her and transported her across borders, eventually forcing her into the sex trade in India. What followed was 14 years of unimaginable cruelty. She endured violence, addiction, and profound hopelessness. Her days blurred into nights of abuse, her individuality stripped away, leaving her a shell of the young woman she once was.

         Because of you, Kalpana found her way to our safe house, where the doors to recovery and opportunity opened.

         With loving care, she began the process of healing. Slowly, Kalpana broke free from addiction, received medical attention, and began rebuilding her life.

         After years of relentless suffering, Kalpana was finally free. She reconnected with her family, re-entering a world she thought she had lost forever. Though challenges remain Kalpana has embraced a new chapter filled with purpose and dignity. Today, she works at a food processing company, living a clean and independent life.
