"I am a United States Navy Combat Veteran. I've been out of the Navy for 5 years now. I served 4 tours overseas over 6 years. I suffered multiple traumatic brain injuries in combat and have severe PTSD. I have had my dog for 2 years and for the past year and a half have been training with her through Canines with a Cause. I've tried more “treatments" than I can count. And only through the work done with them have I even began to start to feel like myself finally again, Or like I'm actually making any progress. The people closest to me have noticed a difference also. I don't know what I'd do without them."
Baby steps, that is how we train our veterans to work with their dogs. Little by little the dog will begin to understand commands through repetition and patience. Healing from the invisible wounds of war also takes time for a veteran suffering with PTS.
Little things can make a big difference. People often don’t take time to volunteer and give back to their communities because they believe they don’t have the time and/or skills to make a difference. Just showing up can make a difference, doing just one small thing.
A can of soup may not seem like much to you, but it is to someone who has a hungry child. A dog dropped at a shelter by someone who “doesn’t have time for it” could mean choosing life over death to a Veteran struggling with suicidal thoughts.
The GlobalGiving Little By Little Campaign is quickly approaching! For five days straight (Sept. 14-18), all donations up to $50 will be matched at 50% and matching funds will not run out! This is a wonderful opportunity to help support the life-saving programs of Canines With a Cause with just a little, as we know a little can make a BIG difference.
Thank you for your ongoing support, I hope you are well.
Best Wishes,
Cathy
