INTRODUCTION
Access to clean water and handwashing is one of the most effective ways to prevent Ebola. Through Water Taps Distributed to End Ebola, GABA HOPE FOR KIDS is placing water taps in homes, schools, and public places to promote hygiene and stop the spread.
GOAL AND OBJECTIVES
Goal: To reduce Ebola transmission by increasing access to handwashing facilities in communities.
Objectives:
Install water taps in high-risk and public areas
Promote handwashing with soap as a daily habit
Educate communities on the link between hygiene and Ebola prevention
Support schools and households to maintain safe hygiene practices
ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED
Distribution and installation of water taps in communities, schools, and markets
Provision of soap and jerry cans with each tap
Community demonstrations on proper handwashing
Training of caretakers and school staff on tap maintenance
Health education on Ebola prevention during each distribution
OBSERVATIONS AND IMPACT
More households and schools now have functional handwashing points
Increased handwashing practice among children and adults
Reduced open defecation and unsafe water handling
Community members report feeling safer and more prepared
Schools report fewer cases of illness
Story of Impact:
"Before we had to walk far for water. Now the tap is here and our children wash hands every day. We feel protected from Ebola." – Parent, Central Uganda
CHALLENGES
Limited number of taps to cover all communities in need
Need for consistent soap and water supply
Maintenance and repair in some areas
RECOMMENDATIONS
Expand tap distribution to more villages and schools
Provide regular supply of soap and water treatment
Train more community members on tap maintenance
Partner with local government and health centers for sustainability
CONCLUSION
Clean water saves lives. By distributing water taps, we are giving communities the tools to protect themselves and end Ebola. With continued support, every home and school can have safe water and hygiene.
