*GABA HOPE FOR KIDS (GAHOK)*
*Theme: Health Matters for Unprivileged Children*
*Date: August 2026 | Location: Gaba & Wakiso, Uganda*
*1. Introduction*
At Gaba Hope for Kids, we support 208 unprivileged children in Gaba slum. Many are orphans and HIV-affected living in poor hygiene conditions. Health is a big matter because sick children cannot learn. This report shows our health support.
*2. Health Status of Our Children*
- Many children come from water-logged slum with no toilets
- Malnutrition, jiggers, ringworms, malaria common
- Girls lack menstrual hygiene materials
- HIV-affected children need special care and nutrition
*3. Health Activities Done*
- *Daily Feeding:* 2 meals (porridge + posho/beans) + clean boiled water - reduced malnutrition
- *Hygiene Training:* Weekly hand washing, body hygiene, compound cleaning
- *Menstrual Health:* Mentorship for 40 girls on menstrual hygiene
- *Deworming & First Aid:* 120 children dewormed, wounds treated
- *Home Visits:* 50 visits to check home hygiene and follow up sick children
- *Clean Water:* Providing boiled water at school
*4. Impact*
- No severe malnutrition cases this term
- Reduced absenteeism due to illness
- Girls more confident during periods
- Children now practice hand washing at school and home
- Zero drop-outs because children are healthier
*5. Health Challenges*
- No proper toilets - children use bush, brings diarrhea and shame
- No clean water source - we buy and boil water daily
- No sick bay / first aid room - we treat under tree
- No mosquito nets at homes - many malaria cases
- Lack of medical funds - we spend only 10% on health
- No health worker - volunteers handle first aid
- Temporary classrooms are dusty and cold causing flu
*6. Urgent Health Needs*
- Build 3 pit latrines with hand washing: $4,500
- Build clean water tank and filter
- Set up small sick bay with beds and first aid kits
- Provide mosquito nets for 100 most vulnerable
- Hire part-time nurse
- Provide reusable sanitary pads for 98 girls
*7. Next Plan*
- Build toilets as first priority
- Start permanent classrooms with good ventilation
- Health talks every Friday
- Link HIV-affected children to health centers
- Start kitchen garden for nutritious vegetables
