Challenge

Ninh Binh's coastal ecosystems are exposed to strong winds, storms, sandy conditions and environmental degradation. Many stretches of the coastline remain vulnerable, while existing coastal protection forests are fragmented. Once the coastline erodes, land becomes saline, and aquatic resources dwindle-with fishing seasons becoming increasingly unpredictable-the livelihoods of coastal residents are severely affected. Here, PanNature's identified 14 hectares of coastal forest needed to be restored

Solution

The project will: 1. Identify planting sites - work with local authorities to confirm priority areas, land availability and planting plan before implementation. 2. Plant Casuarina trees on available sandy coastal areas. The potential planting sites in communes of Hai Tien, Hai Quang and Giao Hung. 3. Monitor restoration results - coordinate with local partners to assess tree establishment and identify areas requiring supplementary plant. 4. Connect forest restoration with environmental awareness

Long-Term Impact

Over time, a healthy coastal protection forest helps buffer waves, reduce the force of storm winds, combat erosion, and prevent sand drift. Such forests also provide habitats for marine life, filter water, and effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby fostering more sustainable livelihoods for local communities. The project is designed not simply to plant trees, but to build a longer-term approach to coastal resilience, ecosystem restoration and community participation.
