The Maternity Center is Opening
The Maternity Suite at our Waterfield Medical Center will be opening this quarter. The building has been completed and stocked with the necessary supplies and equipment and a midwife has been hired. Liberia's maternal mortality ratio remains one of the highest in sub-Saharan Africa: 994 per 100,000 live births. Many lives of mothers and babies will be saved with the opening of this state of the art facility.
New Kitchen
A new kitchen has been constructed at Waterfield to prepare food for the Waterfield Canteen. Nutritious meals are served to patients, staff and guests.
First Mobility Cart Recipient
Last quarter we introduced you to Mobility Worldwide which has designed hand-cranked mobility carts that allow physically challenged people to go where ordinary wheelchairs won't go. We wanted to share with you photos of our first recipient of a mobility cart. What a life-changing tool for this gentleman!
Book Distribution
Barrels full of children's books have been sent to Healthy Women, Healthy Liberia for distribution to children in the villages our Community Health Workers serve. These Barrels of Love are a means for supplying much needed items (from medical supplies to books to clothing) for our Liberian friends.
