Welcome to the second report of our project.
We start by thanking you for your continued support for our project to Restore sight to 200 villagers in South Eastern Nigeria, which provides much needed general and specialist eye care services.
The continuing global Covid-19 pandemic means that we have been unable to undertake any outreach eye services. The ability of the hospitals we partner with to provide specialist eye care has also been limited by the impact of Covid-19.
We continue to direct our work on the other objective of our Foundation, which is to provide small interest free loans to households experiencing huge hardship made worse by Covid-19. As research has shown the pandemic affects disproportionally poor communities and households who rely on daily incomes from petty trading or sell of goods from subsistence farming to feed their families. People in low paid workers have also lost their jobs. We have issued loans of about £100 each (equivalent of 50,000 Naira in Nigerian currency) to additional 15 individuals since our last report in July 2020. We have also provided more food aid for distribution in communities.
We hope to restart the planning for eye screening sessions and arranging cataract operations early next year 2021, Covid-19 permitting. We look forward to sharing the progress in our mission to restore sight with you soon.
Thank you so much for your continued support. Please stay safe and keep well!
