Project Report | Apr 12, 2017
Times of Challenge, Times of Hope

A chance to have fun again with Kimbilio
A chance to have fun again with Kimbilio

We start this report with a huge thank you to all our supporters. Most recently we joined with GlobalGiving for their latest "Little by little" match funding campaign, and this has helped provide some much needed funds for the project. Many of our regular supporters will know that a donation to Congo Children Trust is a donation to the the ongoing journey of all those who find a place of safety at Kimbilio.

Recent developments in the political landscape only increase the danger of all children living on the street in Lubumbashi. Families are struggling to survive, let alone make ends meet, and very often this can lead families to sending one or more children to the streets to live as they cannot support them.

On the streets, the find themselves a target for many forms of exploitation and of violence. The local community is fragile, making the streets very unsafe. Local Kimbilio staff report that the number of children trying to access our services since Christmas has doubled. They also say that a small bag of maize flour, the staple food, has now passed the $40 mark. Your kind donations help us buy these bags of flour which not only feed the children in the care of Kimbilio who are hoping to be reunited with their families, but also as part of our reintergration package for the families of street children. Currently we are maintaining the amount of children successfully reunited with their parents comapred to last year.

These are times of challenge as we see instability lead to rising food prices and more violence on the streets, but it is also a time of hope. Working together with you, our supporters, the Kimbilio staff are continuing to build on a firm foundation of trust with the local community, which we know is impacting on the lives of street children.

In June 2017, Ian Harvey (Founding Director) is travelling to Lubumbashi, DR Congo, so we hope to bring you more information and updates on the projects in our next report. If you would like to know anymore in the meantime please don't hesitate to contact me at eva@kimbiliocongo.org
