Reusable Pads for Women Inmates in Nigeria

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear donors,

Thank you for caring about the health and dignity of women in Nigerian prisons.

Female inmates in Nigeria face serious challenges accessing menstrual hygiene products. Kirikiri Prison in Lagos, designed for 211 inmates, currently holds 593 women. Numan Prison in Adamawa, with a capacity of 400, contributes to the total of 1,538 female inmates across both facilities. Many rely on families for pads, and some are forced to use rags or torn clothing, which can cause infections and discomfort.

This project will provide 7,690 reusable sanitary pads—five per inmate—to women in Kirikiri and Numan prisons. Each pad can last one to two years, giving inmates a safer, more reliable, and sustainable option for menstrual care. By addressing this need, the project will improve hygiene, reduce health risks, and restore comfort and dignity for the women.

The donations received so far are not enough to kickstart the project, and we hope more support will come to make this possible.

To prospective donors, thank you for considering support. Even a small gift can help improve the health, dignity, and daily comfort of women in prison, and provide a model for better menstrual care practices across Nigeria.

With thanks,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
