Roofs are getting greener in Deheishe camp!

Picking the fruits from their hard work!
Picking the fruits from their hard work!

Welcome to this fall update from Deheishe Camp. There is so much exciting news to share about the expansion of our greenhouse project, but first we should say;

We are so happy you are part of this!

Some of you have been reading our updates and supporting our work since the very beginning and know how we were struggling to put one or two simple gardens for the women in the camp. Now Karama is expanding this initiative and that is only possible because people like you believed in us from the beginning! So… a big thank you!

Now, let’s see what happened since our last update.

-          The first 60 greenhouses from the project are fully completed and in use! With assistance from the agricultural experts, all gardens are planted with cucumber and growing well.

-          First harvest; from mid-September on the women started picking their cucumbers and this was such an exciting and satisfying moment for them. They were really picking the fruits from their hard work!

-          First products made by the women groups: the women received training from specialists about the preparation of a wide variety of homemade products and they applied this to their own production. So far, the women came together to make pickled cucumbers and molasses / dibis.

-          Meetings took place with two major donors concerning the work and they were very pleased with the progress and impact of the project on the lives of the women already.

Karama team is working hard to a) continue expanding the greenhouses to other camps (soon we should be officially in Hebron region!) and b) develop the idea of a social enterprise by assisting the women in their business idea of homemade food production from their gardens. Also, we will soon start planting an other variety of vegetables in the greenhouses, as the life cycle from the cucumber will come to an end.

Attached are some pictures of the training sessions that all participants have weekly in Deheishe camp, Aida camp and Al Azza camp. Also we show you the fruits from their hard work, the growth in the greenhouses.
