Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has supported 20 Sheep, 100 chicken and 100 ducks to the Sundarbans coastal people (Banishanta union of Dacope sub district of Khulna district). The supported villagers are nourishing those livestock with real care. So, the number is increasing day by day. The supported villagers are earning from eggs and meat selling
Impact:
BEDS has provided ram and some ducks to me. After that I am nourishing those rams and ducks. New ducklings have been born and sheep are giving birth to new lambs. Now I can earn from eggs and meat selling. Now I don’t have to look for work and go out for work. Now I can take care of my children as well as my family members. I am contributing to my family income and this brings solvency in my family income. My life has been changed
Feedbacks from the beneficiaries:
One of beneficiary expresses her felling. Before starting the alternative livelihood work, I struggled a lot to earn our livelihood. I used to work as a day laborer on other people’s land. At the end of the day I got some wages, which is very little. Sometimes I didn’t even get this work, sometimes I had to go out in search of work. It was too difficult to find work in Covid-19 situation. After getting the support of sheep and duck, my life has been changed. Now I am earning money at my home. I can take proper care of my children and can taking care of their children education in a better way than what they did in the past. I am contributing to my family expenses also.
But there are many more marginal villagers live in the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh, who needs the same support. People who depend on the forest resources fall in huge risk as Bangladesh government has issued strict laws on forest resource harvesting.BEDS is currently trying to raise fund from GlobalGiving platform in order to help those marginal people.
