Livestock becomes a support in Covid-19

By Md. Nurul Amin | Project Leader

Livestock change the life of coastal people
Livestock change the life of coastal people

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has supported 20 Sheep, 100 chicken and 100 ducks to the Sundarbans coastal people (Banishanta union of Dacope sub district of Khulna district). Those livestock is now the main earning resource of some villagers. The supported people are now very happy with those livestock.

The number of Covid patients in Bangladesh has been rapidly increasing for the last two week. In this situation Bangladesh Government announced shutdown from 1 July to 14 July 2021. Almost everything except emergency service is closed. As a result, poor, day laborers, people live from hand to mouth are facing problem, the income many of them has fully stopped. In this shutdown time marginal villagers in the Sundarbans coastal region facing same problem. Majority of the Sundarbans coastal people are forest dwellers (fishermen, honey collectors and nipa collectors) and they have no other alternative income generating sources. But currently, Government of Bangladesh has issued some strict rules and laws on forest resource harvesting. So, the forest the dwellers fall in huge jeopardy. As they belong to a very poor socio economic condition. They can’t help going inside the forest for their living. BEDS is currently trying to raise fund from GlobalGiving platform in order to help those marginal people.

We would like to thank all our donors for being so kind to us so far. We are requesting all our kind donors to start monthly recurring donation.
