Livestock brings luck for the coastal people

By Md. Nurul Amin | Project Leader

Livestock rearing provides economic support
Livestock rearing provides economic support

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has supported 20 Sheep, 100 chicken and 100 ducks to the Sundarbans coastal people (Banishanta union of Dacope sub district of Khulna district). The supported villagers are nourishing those livestock.

Impact:

My income has more than before. Now don’t have to depend on fishing in the Sundarbans. Now me and my family financially well to do

Feedbacks from the beneficiaries:

I am a fisherman, I was collecting fish from the Sundarbans and I think collecting fish from the Sundarbans is a very risky job. Moreover, as the number of fish is decreasing day by day, as a result the amount of our income is decreasing. On the other hand people who depend on the forest resources fall in huge risk as Bangladesh government has issued strict laws on forest resource harvesting. In this situation BEDS has support chicken and sheep. After getting the support of chicken and sheep, now I am earning money at my home. My wife is also helping me to this alternative livelihood work. Now I can do this alternative livelihood work as well as fishing, as a result, my income has increased more than before.

But there are many more marginal villagers live in the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh, who needs the same support. BEDS is currently trying to raise fund from GlobalGiving platform in order to help those marginal people.

We would like to thank all our donors for being so kind to us so far. We are requesting all our kind donors to start monthly recurring donation. For recurring donation, please visit the following link;
