Hen rearing bring more income

By Tasnimur Rabbi | Project Leader

BEDS had given 200 hens to improve their economic situation during Covid-19. The coastal women regularly take care the hen. As the hens need less care and management, poor women can easily rear the hens. It is easy to raise, needs less space for rearing, and requires low inputs of feed, housing facilities, and management. Now it is a matter of glad that, twenty broody hens who laid eggs (12 – 20 per hen), stop laying eggs and will sit on the day and night to warm them up. The heat she provides with her body will help the eggs to hatch and when the chicks are prepared in egg and egg is about to get hatched, she will pick the eggs and help them get out of it. So, the poor villagers are so satisfied with the situation for the aspiration of collecting new chicks.

Throughout the year the coastal people go to the Sundarban to collect honey, catch fish and crabs, collect leaves, and others. The People who depend on the Sundarbans resource harvesting fall at huge risk as the Bangladesh government has issued strict laws on forest resource harvesting. Also, for unplanned resource harvesting; the natural resources have degraded at a high rate. Those people have maintained their life under the breadline.

The Omicron variant of the coronavirus has now been detected in Bangladesh. So, people have passed their life through anxiety and fear. Moreover, people have no capability enough to start their daily income-generating activities. Livestock can be a great source for them to raise their income as well as for fulfilling their nutritional requirement also.

 BEDS is currently trying to raise funds from GlobalGiving platform in order to help those marginal people in the way of income generation for their better future with better economic conditions. We also hope that through taking support from various corners they will be able to use their products for earning their sound livelihood.

We would like to thank all our donors for being so kind to us so far. We are requesting all our kind donors to start monthly recurring donation. For recurring donation, please visit the following link;
