Hi there,
The SVPA has endorsed six state bills to prevent sexual violence across Virginia, Nebraska, Tennessee, Utah, and New York. These future laws increase transparency, protect children, and close dangerous legal gaps, allowing abusers to evade accountability.
AI Sexual Violence Prevention Bills - NE, UT, & TN
The SVPA endorsed three parallel bills in Nebraska (LB1083), Utah (H.B. 286), and Tennessee (HB1898) for AI Safety and child protection. These bills mandate that AI companies create safety plans, report incidents of child harm to state Attorneys General, and protect whistleblowers from retaliation.
Rideshare Sexual Violence Prevention - NY
The SVPA endorsed the Promoting Safety and Accountability in Transportation Act (A1651) to prevent sexual violence during rideshare trips. This bill establishes that neither passengers nor drivers can legally consent to sexual activity during a rideshare trip, providing essential legal protections against coercion and harassment.
Restraining Order Expansion Bill - NY
The SVPA endorsed the CREEP Act (A3226A/S3394A) to modernize New York’s stalking laws. This bill allows all victims – including those targeted by co-workers, neighbors, or strangers– to petition for a restraining order, not just those in intimate or familial relationships.
Incarceration-Based Sexual Violence Prevention - VA
The SVPA endorsed the Second Chance Resentencing Act (HB853) in Virginia, allowing incarcerated individuals who served 15+ years to petition for sentence reduction based on extenuated circumstances, including sexual violence, domestic violence, child abuse, or human trafficking.
We are proud to endorse these six state bills from across the country. This legislation targets key industries and institutions to prevent sexual violence systemically. To learn more, read our full statement!
