Globally, social injustice and gender inequality leave women highly vulnerable and disempowered to protect themselves. Women and girls struggle to be heard and to be given the opportunity to make decisions that could save themselves and their families and communities from Life Risks.
For the past decade Safe Spaces has empowered over 1200 girls to take Charge of their lives through their programmes. The Basketball programme has given opportunities for 19 girls to get High School Education in boarding schools where they are feed, shower, sleep well, are kept safe and have time and space to study.
Automechanics programme has given opportunities for 20 girls to recieve employment in various parts of the Country.
In a Community where parents are handicapped by poverty, time is limited for them to take care of their children. Safe Spaces has provided a platform for learning Reproductive Health, which is a huge component of creating mental safe spaces. When girls are aware of their growth patterns and have basic life skills and are able to make sound decisions about their lives, then life starts to have positive meanings for them. They start dreaming big; they start working on their future life and eventually they can transform their lives forever.
Faith Mutio has been in the slums since when she was 5 years old. She is one of the many girls who did not like seeing her parents drunk and fighting at home. She joined Safe Spaces when she was 15 years old, got trained as a peer educator and later received training on basic business skills. Now she is an Entrepreneur with her own business and earning her own income. She has moved from the slums and is living in a self contained house. We are very proud of her and her achievments.
Abigael received a scholarship for High school and later studied Auto-mechanics at Safe Spaces. She now works as an office Assistant in our Safe Spaces office. She is now able to support herself and also give back to the Community.
These are just examples of what your Support has done in our lives. If it was not for your thoughtfulness and Kind hearts, life would still be difficult for us. We thank you for your generosity and we will be Forever Grateful.
