Valentine, a peer educator with Safe Spaces, embodies the spirit of a Global Citizen. At just 25, she has championed the Safe Spaces Digital Library (SSDL), transforming education for 6,800 underserved students in Nairobi’s Eastland slums since 2020. Recognizing the barriers girls face—lack of access to textbooks, technology, and safe learning environments—Valentine has led outreach and training efforts, empowering girls aged 5-21 to thrive academically and beyond.
Safe Spaces Digital Library equipped with 30 computers, e-readers, and educational software, became a lifeline during COVID-19 lockdowns, delivering over 12,000 hours of remote learning. Under Valentines leadership, the program not only improved homework completion and digital literacy but also increased core subject performance and shifted attitudes toward education.
Valentine envisions expanding the library’s reach, adding more e-learning hubs, and integrating advanced digital skills training to prepare young women for the global workforce.Through your support, Safe Spaces will enhance the Safe Spaces Digital Library by upgrading infrastructure, developing a mobile learning platform, and scaling access to benefit 10,000 more students.
Through Valentines’s advocacy, Safe Spaces inspires other young people to take action, proving that technology and community-led solutions can bridge education gaps and achieve the Global Goals. Her work is a powerful example of how youth leadership drives sustainable change, making her Our reading mentor Heroine.
Lets join Hands together with valentine to make our dream for a modern Library come true.
