Newest Wells in Niger and Mali

By Kate Cusimano | Director of Operations

We recently received reports on some of our newly completed wells in Niger and Mali. These wells are impacting thousands of people in one of the poorest regions of the world. The transformative impact of these wells cannot be overstated, and it is your support that makes them possible.

Thanks to the wells that you helped to fund, women no longer live in fear that their children could die of a water-borne disease. Committees comprised of both women and men from the community have been trained to manage the water point and ensure that everything is working properly. This integrated community engagement model focuses on education to empower women to take a more active role in their community. It also focuses on sustainability to ensure a continuous supply of safe water. We are also multiplying the health benefits of clean water by also addressing sanitation and hygiene in these villages.

Intervention activities include helping people build and maintain latrines, promoting handwashing and the use of soap, and eliminating open defecation. The combination of safe water, sanitation, and hygiene intervention reduces childhood disease and death by more than half. The addition of this water point will also enable girls to go to school and reduce gender disparities in the community.

Thank you for helping to save lives by providing clean water for generations to come.

We’re so grateful for your continued support!
