With your generous support, Meseret Humanitarian Organization (MHO) continues its commitment to protecting Ethiopia’s endemic wildlife, particularly the Walia Ibex, one of the country’s most endangered and unique mammals, and safeguarding the habitats on which these species depend.
During the reporting period, the Safeguarding of Ethiopia’s Endemic Walia Ibex Project received only US$0.58 in funding. While this amount is far below the resources required to implement meaningful field-level conservation activities, MHO has maintained its commitment to the project and continued to promote the protection of endemic wildlife and their natural habitats.
Progress and Achievements
Despite the severe funding limitation, MHO has continued to keep the conservation objective active within its program agenda. The organization has maintained its focus on the importance of protecting the Walia Ibex and its habitat, while seeking opportunities to mobilize additional resources and strengthen partnerships for future conservation interventions.
The limited funding has also reinforced the importance of cost-effective planning, resource mobilization, partnership development, and community-oriented conservation approaches. MHO recognizes that sustainable protection of endangered wildlife requires not only financial resources but also collaboration with local communities, government institutions, conservation stakeholders, and other development partners.
Challenges and Constraints
The principal challenge during this reporting period was insufficient funding. The US$0.58 received was not adequate to support substantial field activities such as habitat protection, community awareness, conservation education, monitoring, or other direct interventions. Consequently, implementation remained limited and focused primarily on maintaining the project’s conservation commitment and preparing for future resource mobilization.
Way Forward
MHO will continue to seek additional funding and strategic partnerships to enable the project to move from a largely resource-constrained phase toward practical, measurable conservation interventions. Priority areas will include community awareness, protection of wildlife habitats, conservation education, biodiversity monitoring, and collaboration with relevant authorities and conservation organizations.
In all although financial support during this reporting period was extremely limited, MHO remains committed to safeguarding Ethiopia’s endemic Walia Ibex and other endangered wildlife and their habitats. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps sustain the organization’s conservation mission and strengthens its ability to mobilize further support. MHO sincerely appreciates your continued interest and generosity and looks forward to expanding this important work as additional resources become available.
