This quarter, our work was strengthened by deeper collaboration with local medical professionals and expanded community services. Partnerships with physicians like Dr. Urbina and Dr. Rugama improved our ability to coordinate referrals and respond to emergencies, while pediatrician Dr. Alonso played a crucial role in educating families on nutrition, hygiene, and preventive health, support that was especially important during the height of the dengue surge. Donor contributions ensured a steady supply of essential medications, giving families reliable access to treatment when they needed it most.
We also expanded our laboratory capacity, conducting comprehensive testing for SPTLN children with the support of Max and the lab team. Screenings identified cases of H. pylori, anemia, electrolyte deficiencies, parasites, and, thanks to rapid tests donated by Brooke, early flu infections, allowing us to intervene before symptoms progressed. Finally, donor support made it possible to welcome new children into the program, many of whom were identified during our most recent brigade, ensuring continuity of care for the families who need it most.
SPTLN continues to be a critical pillar of our healthcare work in León. The program provides ongoing medical monitoring, nutritional support, and timely interventions for children who might otherwise fall through the cracks of the health system. By combining consistent follow-up with targeted education for parents and caregivers, SPTLN strengthens long-term health outcomes and helps families build a foundation of stability and well-being for their children.
