Dear Donors,
We are delighted to share the progress towards improving menstrual hygiene in the Lango sub-region of Ugand. Recently, Joy for Children Uganda had the privilege of visiting Rapha Secondary School in Lira City, where we implemented an important initiative focused on menstrual health.
Our team visited Rapha Secondary School with the primary objective of enhancing menstrual hygiene among female students. We distributed a substantial quantity of sanitary pads, knickers and to ensure that every girl had access to necessary menstrual products. This distribution was aimed at removing barriers that might prevent students from attending school during their menstrual periods.
In addition to providing the pads,, knickers and bags, our staff conducted educational sessions with the students. These sessions were designed to teach proper use and care of the sanitary pads, as well as to highlight the significance of maintaining good menstrual hygiene. The sessions covered essential topics such as the correct way to use and dispose of sanitary products, the importance of hygiene practices during menstruation, and how menstrual health can impact overall well-being and academic performance.
The sessions were well-received, and we observed a noticeable increase in the students' understanding and confidence regarding menstrual health. Many students expressed their appreciation for the knowledge gained, which will undoubtedly help them manage their menstruation more effectively and with greater comfort.
Moreover, the provision of sanitary pads addressed a critical need and alleviated a significant challenge for many students. By ensuring access to these essential products, we have helped reduce the likelihood of school absenteeism due to menstrual hygiene issues.
Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive. They reported feeling more informed and empowered about managing their menstrual health, and many noted a reduction in the stigma and embarrassment often associated with menstruation. The open discussions and informative sessions fostered a supportive environment where students could openly address their concerns and questions.
Looking ahead, we are committed to continuing our efforts to improve menstrual hygiene management in the Lango sub-region. We plan to extend our outreach to additional schools and communities, ensuring that more students benefit from similar initiatives. Future plans include regular follow-up sessions to provide ongoing support, collaboration with local health workers to enhance education and resource availability, and advocacy for sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions.
Your support has been instrumental in making this initiative a success. We are deeply grateful for your contributions, which have made a tangible difference in the lives of many young girls. Thank you for your continued partnership as we strive to promote better health and education for all.
