Sadly the stories behind the people we serve at San Jose Communal dinning aren't easy to tell. But despite the harsh condition they live in we are happy we can provide help with your support to the most vulnerable. This is what has happened these last few months at the communal dinning and the people that surrounds us.
*Miguel, a 76-year-old man lives in unfortunate conditions. His house has floors made of dirt and a tin roof. In rainy days, all the interior of the house gets flooded because of the leaks on the selling. Now he lives alone because his wife had to move in with his children, she has a delicate health as well. He cannot sustain himself, sometimes he just eats breakfast because he doesn't have the chance to work. He lives by her own with a failure on his kidney, so he must have a catheter that is removed every three days in a public clinic nearby.
This medical condition doesn't let him work and gain some money to eat. He does what he can, sometimes he recycles trash and receives 2 dollars to eat that day. Other times, his children help him, but they don't have too much money either. Being involved at the dining Center allows him to eat everyday proper meals and he is been connected with a public agency to take care of his health.
*Gisela, an elderly woman lives a similar way, in a house made of dirt floors and a tin roof that is put together with rocks and sticks. When the rainy days come, the roof have leaks, so everything gets wet. She has no family that can help her financially. She lives with his son that has no job, just sometimes helps in the market, and with his grandson that was abandoned by his parents. They take care of this little boy, he goes to a public school nearby.
Gisela and his son are now admitted to the Dining Center San Jose.
*Names have been change to protect their identities.
