GlobalGiving Donor Impact Report Open Heart Medical Mission – May/2025

Dear Donors, We are thrilled to share the incredible impact your generous support has made during our recently concluded Open Heart Medical Mission. Your donations enabled us to deliver life-saving care and build local capacity for sustainable healthcare in Nigeria.

Medical Impact

Thanks to your support, we were able to carry out a full-scale mission that brought specialized cardiac care to children and adults in urgent need:

11 Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Procedures:These minimally invasive procedures helped correct congenital heart defects and improve quality of life for young patients, reducing the need for more invasive surgery.
5 Pediatric Open Heart Surgeries: We successfully completed five major open heart surgeries on children, offering them a renewed chance at healthy, active lives.
20 Open Heart Surgeries in Total. In total, we performed 20 complex open heart surgeries, providing treatment for both pediatric and adult patients suffering from life-threatening heart conditions.

Capacity Building

As part of our commitment to long-term impact, we also conducted a comprehensive training session for local medical staff from the Enugu School of Nursing. This initiative focused on building local expertise in cardiac care and surgical support, ensuring that more lives can be saved in the future without relying solely on international missions.

Five Little Hearts Campaign

Over the past few months, we have made significant strides in advancing our donation efforts. Thanks to the generosity of the public, we were able to perform life-saving open heart surgeries on two children from underserved areas who were in desperate need of medical intervention. Both children were diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a congenital condition that causes a hole in the heart, and their surgeries were crucial for their survival.

One of the children, Chidimma, is the youngest in her family and has always been a source of joy and hope. Despite the challenges posed by her heart condition, her infectious smile and vibrant energy brightened the lives of everyone around her. Chidimma’s older siblings were deeply devoted to her, always by her side, and their unwavering support brought even more love and warmth to their family. Her story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and we are proud to have played a part in helping her regain her health.

In addition to the surgeries, your generous donations also enabled us to provide valuable training for local medical staff. We focused on best practices for cardiovascular health, ensuring that healthcare providers in underserved areas have the knowledge and skills to treat similar conditions in the future. This training is an important step toward building sustainable healthcare infrastructure and empowering local professionals to make a lasting impact.

Furthermore, we hosted a community health fair aimed at educating the public on various health topics, with a special focus on cardiovascular health. The fair provided an opportunity for local residents to engage with healthcare professionals, ask questions, and learn more about how they can take proactive steps to improve their health. We are grateful for the continued support of our donors, as it allows us to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children like Chidimma and in the overall well-being of the community.
