MEDRIX Ending Donations of Medical Equipment in Vietnam

By Alicia Moore | Project Leader

MEDRIX was honored to receive a generous discount on 60 infant and pediatric sized blood pressure cuffs from Acorn Uniforms in October 2013. We were just looking for a creative and visual way to share with our donors and supporters, the great need for life-saving medical equipment in Vietnam. Instead Acorn Uniforms very generously offered MEDRIX the cuffs at a discount, making it possible for us to provide our colleagues at National Pediatric Hospital and Hue Central Hospital more equipment than we had planned.

This equipment that is seen as so simple and vital in the U.S. is unfortunately not as common in Vietnam. Lack of resources make the jobs of the doctors and nurses much more difficult, especially in the pediatrics department, filled with young children who are not always able to verbalize what hurts and where. Accurate diagnosis is dependent not just on a nurse's knowledge on childhood diseases, but also support from vital medical equipment.

MEDRIX has been keen to observe the intense passion and dedication shown by the doctors and nurses at National Pediatric Hospital in Hanoi, and Hue Central Hospital in Hue. These health professionals work tirelessly around the clock to tend to all of their patients with knowledge and compassion. Limited medical equipment and resources make their job much more difficult, as well as an overwhelming amount of patients. Every time we visit our colleagues in Vietnam, we are newly inspired not only to support them in any way possible, but to serve the people of Vietnam with the same fervor and hope that we witness daily at National Pediatric Hospital and Hue Central Hospital.

Thanks to you, our donors, countless young children and infants who fall ill now have a far better outcome ahead of them. These cuffs help ensure that our skilled doctors and nurses in Vietnam will provide an accurate and well-rounded diagnosis to every little patient they encounter. This will help change the face of health in the surrounding regions on an exponential level. Not just this "generation" of doctors, nurses and patients will be affected: now all doctors and nurses in the pediatrics department in these hospitals will learn how to effectively use these tools. Additionally, now all little patients in the future will receive the tender care that our colleagues tirelessly work to give them.

Because of your generosity, MEDRIX was able to donate these cuffs to our colleagues in Vietnam in February and March 2014. They were very excited both to learn how to use them and to continue improving the quality of life of their littlest patients. We were able to divide the cuffs fairly evenly between the two hospitals, located in different parts of the country. This means that your generosity will be felt not just in one centralized part of Vietnam, but literally throughout the whole country, including the capital city Ha Noi. While MEDRIX has no current plans to provide additional equipment in the immediate future, we vow to keep our minds and our hearts open to the needs of the people of Vietnam and to serve them to the best of our capabilities.

Thank you again for your donations, and please keep a lookout for future and ongoing projects from MEDRIX.
