WHY YOUR SUPPORT IS CRITICAL
The number of Zimbabwean children who are battling cancer is on the rise. It is estimated by sources working with children that the mortality numbers are in the region of 75%. Most Childhood cancers are curable with treatment, however, in Zimbabwe, children and their families or caregivers face so many challenges that they most often abandon treatment.
A NEW HOPE
Through a shared vision, of making a positive impact and facilitating a reduction in the mortality rate of childhood cancer sufferers in Zimbabwe, The Meikles Foundation, Roundtable Zimbabwe and KidzCan have partnered to create The Rainbow Children’s Village. The Rainbow Children’s Village seeks to address these challenges by providing a restorative and nurturing home where pediatric outpatients can be monitored and recuperate from treatment. The Rainbow Children’s Village is in the process of constructing this home where pediatric cancer patients from out of Harare can live temporarily during their different treatment phases as there is limited in-patient treatment at Parirenyatwa Hospital, the only cancer treatment public hospital in Zimbabwe. The property is located in Harare, a 15-minute drive from Parirenyatwa Hospital. The facility will be made up of 27 rooms for patients and a caregiver, with wheelchair accessible toilets, communal living and entertainment space, state of the art kitchen, laundry and an office. The Rainbow Children’s Village will improve treatment outcomes by increasing adherence to treatment for children who live out of Harare as they will now be located close to the hospital and will not require transportation fares. This close proximity to Parirenyatwa Hospital Casualty department will also allow swift management of adverse effects of chemotherapy because. The clean and stable environment in the Rainbow Children’s Village will reduce the number of children who acquire various infections post chemotherapy administration and ultimately, increase the survival rates among children receiving treatment at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
YOU CAN BE PART OF HOPE
We need your support now more than ever to complete the new Village to help these affected children get optimal care. Your gift will provide the village financial support to kick start phase two and phase three. Together, we can continue to save the lives of these children, their families, and communities. Together, we can help give these children, the lifeline they desperately need. With your support, we are doing everything possible to change the outlook for the 4 in 5 kids who, without your help and support, do not a stand a chance in this life.
Thank you for your generous support to KidzCan .
