Save the Gili Turtles & Help to Build a Hatchery

Well it's been a turtle-rific past few months thanks to the help and support of our new supporters via GlobalGiving!

Soon after we completed our fundraising goal of $5,000 in September, we were in touch with the fantastic team at Hotel Lumi Eco Resort on the quiet, sunset side of Gili Trawangan. 

After spending more than 4 years working with them within sustainability, eco-tourism and multiple clean up events, they have kindly agreed to join forces to build the turtle sanctuary on some peaceful land behind their eco-resort. 

Right now we are talking about how we can start setting up a hatchery ready for the 2022 nesting season of the local sea turtles. It usually starts in April, so it'll be a busy few months! With the help, support and collaboration with Hotel Lumi, this project could be bigger and better than we imagined!

Working together to try and bring a marine vet to Gili Trawangan so that any reports from divers of sick or injured turtles can be handled immediately and on-site locally in Gili, rather than the stressful transport of getting injured wildlife to Lombok or Bali. 

If we can sort out these plans, not only can we start to relocate and protect vulnerable nests of turtle eggs on the beach, but also to safeguard the fully grown turtles of Gili Trawangan and really start to focus on an island famous for eco-turtle-tourism!
