Project Summary
In Virunga National Park, over 50 hippopotamuses have been found dead, poisoned by anthrax in the waters of Lake Edward. This unprecedented ecological crisis poses a severe threat to wildlife, local communities, and public health. The "Save Hippopotamuses from Anthrax" project aims to contain the outbreak, protect the ecosystem, and raise community awareness about anthrax-related health risks.
Project Objectives
Background and Urgency
Virunga is home to incredible biodiversity, but also faces ongoing instability. This anthrax outbreak poses a deadly threat not only to animals and water sources, but to thousands of people living around the park. Human transmission is a real danger. Without swift action, the health and environmental consequences could be devastating.
