Iraqi Children With Disabilities

HELP IRAQI CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

Having a disability shouldn’t mean being excluded from community or care. A lot of Iraqi children have some form of disability, whether affected from birth or because of disease, land mines, or other injuries. Children with disabilities in Iraq often find themselves isolated, lonely, and with little hope.

ICHOPE works hard to help these children have a better life. We are working and cooperating with 2 treatment centers. During the past quarter, ICHOPE helped 25 children with disabilities, continuing to send them to specialty centers and providing them with the necessary treatments and vitamins to supplement their diet.

ICHOPE’s 4 staff members and 3 volunteers work together to ensure these children get the support they need and to support the families logistically by providing them with transportation to and from the treatment centers.

A Story of Yousif:  Yousif is a 10-year-old boy with autism. His father was killed when Yousif was only 2, and he is now being raised by his single mother.

Frustrated with his inability to express his thoughts and feelings, Yousif communicated with anger and shouting. Yousif’s mother felt helpless, as she lacked the funds for resources to assist her already emotionally devastated son.

Learning of Yousif’s situation, ICHOPE immediately stepped into action by arranging for Yousif to attend a professional treatment center in July 2023. In just 6 short months, Yousif’s transformation brought tears to the eyes of the ICHOPE volunteers who now see Yousif smiling and attempting to communicate by using short words and hand gestures. Yousif is enjoying his time at the treatment center, and as his mother testifies, he has been receptive to her communication and is learning to listen to others as they speak.

Yousif’s mother is ever grateful for the positive impact on her and her entire family!

These positive impacts and life transformations are made possible by the generous donations of ICHOPE donors like you.
