Save kids with Ukrainian Red Cross

As the fighting in the Eastern Ukraine intensified, so have the flow of refugees. We have been there for the people who flee the hostilities all along.

Recentely, there was an influx of people from Kupyansk district of the Kharkiv region. These families are receiving transition food and hygiene kits that will help them settle in a new, safer, place.

In the safer areas, where Internally displaced persons find shelter, we continue running psychosocial activities for kids and their families. Only in Chernivtsi region in September, there were 156 events, which included creativity classes for kids, active games, family events - all aimed at alleviating the mental suffering caused by displacement or other concequences of war. The activities engaged1544 people.

In Zakarpattia region, 351 food parcels have been recently distributed for the newly-arrived IDP families. In the western region of Ivano-Frankivsk, the vulnerable people which include displaced families with multiple children, received 1.7 tons of foodstuff.

In Kherson, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia regions, 12 additional mobile concrete shelters have been installed to save life and health of those caught in a surprize artillery or drone attack.

Besides, we continue informing children about the dangers of mines and unexploded ordnance across all regions of Ukraine, involving thousands of young Ukrainians, and steering them away from the harm's way.

Thanks to the Mobile Health Units project, within one week, 722 people including kids, received medical consultations and examinations in faraway villages and towns of the Sumy region, which do not have regular access to medicine.

The Ukrainian Red Cross continues actively supporting the kids affected by the war in Ukraine.

Below is the highlight of the activities of the past few months that have been made possible thanks to all our supporters and partners.

The Mykolaiv Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross completed an important project - the renovation of three educational institutions in Mykolaiv city. The work included the renovation of bombshelters,installation of ventilation and fire alarms, installation of regular and backup lighting, and arranging of Wi-Fi access points and recreational areas.

The Desnianskyi District Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross in Kyiv has distributed emergency kits to large families in the Desnianskyi district, which included a flashlight and a solar-powered power bank. With this help, families are equiped to face the daily power outages.

Around 100 children studying at the Mykhailivska Special School in Cherkasy Oblast faced a problem with the water quality in their school. Laboratory tests showed significant deviations in the quality of the drinking water used in the daily consumption of students. The Ukrainian Red Cross, together with its partners, purchased and installed a water filtration system, so now the children of the school always have access to quality drinking water.

1,196 families from Kyiv and Mykolaiv received financial aid from the Ukrainian Red Cross for rehabilitation of children and adults totaling more than 35 million UAH. Most of the children and adults who received the financial aid already have disability status or are in the process of obtaining it. Each patient received UAH 30 thousand under the program.

Other activities included psychosocial support events, workshop on mine risk awareness and first aid for the kids and their parents, and, of course, the distribution of humanitarian aid for the displaced little ones and their families.
