Our team works in Odesa, a city in Ukraine that lives under constant Russian attacks. On 27 January, three people were killed and 35 injured, including two children and a pregnant woman, while 46 apartment buildings were damaged. Night attacks with the explosions force people to flee their homes in panic, frightened, sometimes injured, and without basic items or communication. Odesa is hit almost every night, and immediate support is needed right on the sites in the first hours after strikes.
After drone or missile strikes, residents escape damaged buildings within seconds. It is dark and very cold outside, usually from -5C to -12C. People are disoriented and frightened, without warm clothes or phone. Fires cause panic, children get lost and scream, 'Mum, where are you?', neighbours look for their loved ones and try to understand what has happened and what to do next. People with disabilities and elderly people are often left without help.
Your donation supports rapid response directly at the sites of enemy strikes in Odesa whenever an attack occurs. In the first critical minutes, we provides hot drinks and food, water, blankets, warm clothing, non-food item kits, flashlights, power banks and chargers. Support will also cover transport and operational costs. Thanks to your support, we will be able to provide crisis support and psychological first aid to children and adults, especially during night attacks and blackouts.
Stable funding allows continuous support beyond emergency response. With frequent power outages caused by attacks on energy system, Ukrainians face extreme hardship during one of the coldest winter. They live with no electricity, heating, water at home for 3-8 days now. Support enables assistance to thousands of low-income families, people with disabilities and elderly people through heating items, warm clothing, power banks, stoves, blankets and hot meals, to protect their health and lives.
