Dear Supporter,
Recently we have used some of your generous donations for improvements and upgrades to our facilities.
SAVE THE CHILDREN TOY LIBRARY (LUDOTECA)
Save the Children toy libraries (Ludotecas) were created to offer a safe environment where children from low socio-economic background can come to play and learn. They focus on topics like children’s rights, healthcare and primary education. Ludotecas operate 5 days a week and the admission is free.
This month we have used funds to supply safe drinking water for the children who attend the Ludoteca. Having a regular drinking regime of safe and clean water is absolutely crucial in the weather conditions of Playa del Carmen.
We have also donated a door bell, which was also a much-needed improvement. Until now the parents and kids had to shout or bang on the entrance gate and due to the layout of Ludoteca this caused sometimes long and unnecessary waiting. The doorbell will improve the quality of the environment greatly and allow the running of the activities in a much convenient manner.
Save the Children have also asked for a donation of two compact digital cameras, to be able to monitor and document their everyday activities. Photographs are used, among others, for PR purposes, monthly reports and creating content for presentations for potential donors. We were happy to assist with this!
SPECIAL NEEDS INTEGRAL CARE CENTER
Mic-Key button, or Bard button, is a specialized device for use in patients who aren’t able to receive oral feeding and require enteral feeding. Such is a case of one of the pupils at the Integral Care Centre, who has been attending the Centre for 6 years.
By providing her with this device, she can not only receive her food in a more convenient way but enables her to fully participate in the therapies provided at the center. Before getting the Mic-Key button, she was not able to participate in some of the therapies, especially the Equine and Aquatic therapy, because it represented a risk to her, due to the way her enteral feeding was set up.
The donation will significantly improve the quality of life for her, as well as free up some time for the teachers because the device is much easier to use and maintain. This improvement has had a huge positive impact on the entire centre, teachers and students!
We thank you for your generous support of this project!
Best Wishes,
GVI-Mexico
