Scales Conservation Fund is excited to share the first update from our GlobalGiving campaign, "Save Wildlife at Western Cape’s Only Rescue Centre," supporting the Kogelberg Biosphere Wildlife Rescue Centre. As the sole wildlife rescue facility in the Western Cape, the centre provides critical care for injured, orphaned, and displaced animals in the Overstrand. Your generous donations are vital in delivering medical care, nourishing food, and safe enclosures, giving these animals a second chance to thrive in the wild.
The Overstrand’s wildlife faces mounting challenges from human development, veld fires, car accidents, poisoning, and illegal snares. The Kogelberg Biosphere Wildlife Rescue Centre is a lifeline for these creatures. For instance, an antelope caught in a snare can receive urgent treatment to heal leg injuries, supported by a protein-rich diet to regain strength. Similarly, a tortoise suffering burns from a veld fire can be nursed back to health with specialized care and hydration. These cases highlight the centre’s mission: rescuing animals, providing expert rehabilitation, and releasing them back to their natural habitats.
Donations through this campaign are vital for sustaining this life-saving work. Funding ensures the centre can provide nutritious food, from formulas for young orphans to tailored diets for recovering predators. It also supports secure enclosures, creating safe spaces for rehabilitation. Each animal’s journey, from rescue to release, depends on this support to restore their strength and return them to the wild.
By supporting the centre, you’re helping protect the Western Cape’s biodiversity and fostering community awareness for coexistence with wildlife. This work paves the way for a future where animals thrive alongside people. We’re deeply grateful to our generous donors for fueling the Kogelberg Biosphere Wildlife Rescue Centre’s mission to safeguard the region’s unique wildlife.
