Education & Health for Rohingya - Quarterly Impact

By Catalina Cifuentes | Chief of Staff OBAT Helpers USA

OBAT Learning & Health Program Summary

Education Program Highlights

Over the past quarter, OBAT Learning Centers continued to serve 640 learners across grades 1 to 3, supported by a dedicated team of host teachers, Burmese volunteers, and Rohingya volunteer guards. Our centers remained active and stable, consistently providing safe and nurturing spaces where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

We held regular community-engagement activities, including CESG meetings, parents’ meetings, refresher trainings, sector coordination meetings, and visitor engagements, to ensure strong collaboration, smooth operations, and continuous improvement across all Learning Centers.

Additional key activities included:

  • Distribution of new Learning Center bags to 560 learners

  • Education materials distribution for all 640 learners

  • Tree plantation initiative, with 60 new trees planted around the centers

  • A special field visit by OBAT Advisor Saima Hasan, who spent meaningful time with students and encouraged the team

These efforts together strengthened learning quality, improved the environment around the centers, and enhanced children’s motivation and attendance.

Health Program Highlights

From July to September, OBAT’s health facilities served 16,867 patients, ensuring compassionate, reliable care for both refugee and host communities.

Key achievements this quarter:

  • Strong coordination with government bodies, UN agencies, hospitals, and camp health officials to maintain smooth referrals, emergency readiness, and data sharing.

  • Public health awareness sessions focused on topics such as handwashing, diarrheal disease prevention, EPI vaccination importance, and vector-borne disease awareness.

  • Enhanced camp-level collaboration, improving triage systems and preparedness for patient surges.

  • Ongoing partnership with WHO, which provided essential medical kits and technical support to strengthen emergency response capacity.

  • Staff development, including trainings on triage, lab practices, disease recognition, and participation in WHO’s Emergency Preparedness & Response training.

  • Continued role in the PSEA Network, reinforcing our commitment to safety, accountability, and protection for all.

Thank You!

None of this progress would be possible without your partnership. Your support continues to uplift refugee families, empower children with education, and provide critical health services to thousands who rely on OBAT.
We are deeply grateful for your trust and generosity.
