Unfortunately this report beings no news from our otters so instead, let's learn some background on our otters and geography!
The otter native to Israel is the Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra), known in Hebrew as the "Lutra".
In the past, the lutra was once found in significant numbers in many regions, including streams on the coastal plain. The animal feeds on fish in swamplands, rivers and lakes.
It was found in northern Israel and has already disappeared from areas such as the Jezreel and Zevulun valleys in the north, plagued by hunting, pollution and the drying up of streams. The otter population remains stable in region stretching from the Jordan River tributaries to the Harod and Beit She'an valleys.
Few have been spotted in the Golan Heights.
Stay healthy!
