Your Donation In Action

By Tom Neill | Operations Director

The Masaka team outside the ED

GECC has been hard at work this spring, so I wanted to share a story with you that highlights how your donations have been instrumental in building an education system and saving lives. The following blog post excerpt was written by Rashidah Nambaziira, GECC's Program Coordinator at Masaka.

Every once in a while something happens that reminds me of why the work GECC is doing is invaluable, and worth the effort we all put in. GECC recently started training nurses at Masaka Hospital, which presents a whole new set of challenges because it’s a public hospital: there are more patients who are sicker, and the resources are limited to what the government provides as part of free health care to the public.

Over the past six months, the progress in the ED at Masaka is very evident in both the patient outcomes and the changes in ED patient management. It’s even more evident in the stories the ECPs, the GECC research team, and the ED nurses tell about the impact of the training on management of individual patients. This story is an example of that impact.

While working in my office, which is in the same building as the ED, I heard a loud cry from the ED; this is not unusual since we get a lot of patients screaming from pain. I went in anyway, because the crying seemed to increase with more people joining in.

You can read the rest of the post on our blog. Please be aware there is some language about blood and lacerations in the post.

In addition, we wanted to remind you of an upcoming fundraising Match Day on June 15th. Increase you impact as Global Giving will match ALL donations to GECC by 50%. Starting at 9am ET sharp, every $100 you donate to GECC will result in a $150 donation until matching funds run out. As a reminder, last year matching funds ran out in one hour, so please contribute at 9am ET sharp to maximize your donation.

We are very thankful for all of your support, generosity, and encouragement through the years. It makes this work possible!

Sincerely,

Tom Neill
Operations Director
