Every week, on average, 750 searches are carried out in WMDA's Search & Match Service, a.k.a. the global registry of voluntary blood stem cell donors and cord blood unit.
Approximately 90% of searches are successful in finding a matching stem cell donor.
One of the reasons for successful searches is the number of donors available. This is thanks to our members, donor registries, recruiting more donors. It is also thanks to new members joining and listing their donors, such as Ukraine. Last year, the Ukrainian Bone Marrow Registry became a WMDA member and this year, they started listed their donors so that patients in other countries could find a match.
50% of patients find their donor in another country, so it's vital that we invest time and knowledge in countries worldwide.
Your support of our project means that we can do just that! We can reach out to organisations such as the Ukrainian Bone Marrow Registry and support them in the process of becoming a registry, improving donor recruitment and retention and using WMDA's Search & Match Service.
Thank you for supporting WMDA global collaboration and patients worldwide.
