The Land Is Fenced And Has Trees!

By Dale Robertson | Dog Desk Animal Action Director

We are absolutely delighted to share with you that the land has been buzzing with activity this week!

Trees have been planted, a fast growing species it is hoped tht they will provide the dogs with some shade but also be a sensory experience for them.

I've added a picture for you so you can see the land being made ready. If you look along the right hand side you can see Hospital Row. This is an overflow area where patients who have been discharged from the clinic spend a little time while finishing their medications. The shelter manager has to keep them separate from the main pack to make the distribution of drugs safe & easy. You can see a few of the dogs looking out at the workers, Dalo is the most noticeable, adorably barking orders at the men doing the planting. Dalo used to live under a bridge on a construction site, he is very experienced in these matters!

The posts have been concreted in for the fencing which is all very exciting for everyone. It marks a significant point in the transformation of this empty space.

Dale is meeting with Nilufer the shelter manager shortly to discuss huts, troughs & the like & whether or not to concrete. Ideally if space can be found in the shelter it would be a wonderful opportunity to have a natural environment for the dogs. I don't know if this is possible due to poop control, infection risk & problems with mud. We will keep you informed.

Thank you for being part of this lifesaving project.
