Project Report | Dec 1, 2023
Thanks for your support in 2023!

By Michelle Potter and Gillian Anderson | Founders

The SAYes Alumni are thriving.
The SAYes Alumni are thriving.

What a year it's been for SAYes! 2023 was certainly a year of new beginnings; forging new partnerships; and fostering those with our existing supporters and partner programmes.

  • At the start of the 2023, we officially launched our mentoring programmes in the UK (after successful pilots since 2021). This UK partnership began when our founder Gillian Anderson, reached out to the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and offered the SAYes programme as part of his 'New Deal for Young People' and Propel Collaboration. The Mayor's mission was to provide a mentor for every Young Londoner who, for whatever reason, had no adult role model in their lives.

  • Since then, we have working closely with London Boroughs such as Lewisham; Southwark; Richmond and Kingston; Islington; and Wandsworth to achieve the goal of social change through mentoring. We many more irons in the fire, so watch this space in 2024 for exciting news.

  • In South Africa, it was great to be able to visit our partner Child and Youth Care Centres 'face-to-face' once again. That connection proves valuable, especially for new or younger mentees on our programme.

  • The introduction of Mentee Liaisons, in the UK and South Africa, means that we are now able to make more connections with young people, and provide extra support when needed.

  • In October, we celebrated our 15th birthday. So much has happened since we founded SAYes in 2008 and we're looking forward to what the future holds.

  • SAYes is now on TikTok! Go and give us a follow on there - we hope to produce even more lovely content to keep you informed of our work.

  • We have a thriving Alumni, full of young social changemakers. They meet regularly to support one another, and to promote the work of SAYes.

  • Our new Ambassador Programme was launched, allowing mentees to be official representatives of SAYes.

Of course, none of this work would be possible without you - the SAYes friends and supporters. Your generous donations and raffles; spreading the word on social media; and being there for us every step of the way, is what motivates us each day.

Wishing you all a healthy and peaceful holiday season,

Yours,
Michelle and Gillian xx
