Congratulations to the four 2017 graduates: Flory as a practical nurse, Clara as a bookkeeper, Juana as a preschool teacher, and Beatriz as an office secretary. It has been a good year for them all!
They now are waiting for all their papers to be registered and then they will be able to look for a job. They are eager to start earning money. In Guatemala, the young women always say they want a job, so they can help their parents with family expenses. They appreciate how hard their parents work to support the family.
Carmela Paz, the program coordinator, made the following comments on how she sees the Fund affecting these students and the other 68 young women who have gone through the program. This in turn will affect their communities and Guatemala as a whole. Carmela said, "The graduates of Kateri Fund can work toward a more just system in Guatemala. When they graduate they have an education which is a tool that enables them to look for work that will provide an income. This enables them to better their quality of life and that of their whole family. With an education as a base, they can insert themselves into Society with more security and opt to participate politically, socially, economically, and culturally."
Flory, who we have told you about before, reached another of her goals this year. She graduated from high school as a practical nurse and is now working in a Health Clinic in Panajachel where she lives. She has been supporting herself since an early age. She still has another goal in mind. She wants to study to be a professional nurse or psychologist. For this she will need university training. With the kind of character she has shown, we are sure she will make it!
There is another group of students ready to study in 2018. Right now we are gathering the funds for their program. Donations go directly to scholarships for these students. Giving Tuesday is coming up! Global Giving will be awarding matching funds to all the projects in proportion to the amount of money raised. A donation on November 28th will be matched and will mean more students like Flory can study in 2018.
It all depends on you! Donate on Giving Tuesday so all the young women who are waiting can study in 2018
Thank you for what you have already done. Keep up the good work!
