Updates on GEANCO Leadership Scholarship for Girls

By Afam Onyema | Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Our scholarship girls continue to thrive!  We have 47 girls total at four partner schools - Brightland Academy in Enugu, Lightway Academy in Abuja, Fruitful Vines College in Ibadan, and Baptist High School in Jos.
This past fall, the girls joined hundreds of other teens and young mothers at our Mental and Mental Health workshops.  These workshops increased awareness and education on mental health and menstrual hygiene and equipped them with the knowledge and confidence to improve both their physical and mental hygiene habits for wholesome living.
By the end of 2025, we:
  • Educated 600 adolescent boys and girls on mental health, emotional well-being, and how to seek help when needed.
  • Equipped over 800 girls and young women with accurate information about menstrual health, hygiene practices, and stigma reduction
  • Distributed branded wristbands during the mental health session as a reminder of strength, support, and solidarity.
  • Distributed 3,000 packs of sanitary pads to support the menstrual hygiene of teenage girls and young women.
