The SCC-CBE Project aims to provide extra-curricular activities for children from poor families, enhancing their education and promoting better learning outcomes. The project focuses on English and Khmer language classes and encourages parents and caregivers to support the students' in-home studies. In 2023, 88 orphans and vulnerable children from 65 poor families in Boeung Kak received free additional education in English and Khmer languages. The students involved in the project ranged from level kindergarten to level 3, however, there was a 20% decrease in enrollment due to families moving from the SCC's target area. beyond the in-school education, 130 home visits were conducted to 65 poor families, where staff consulted with families on issues of education, COVID safety, school attendance, hygiene, and nutrition. To promote children's protection and education, International Children's Day celebrations were held, with 88 children in attendance. Parent meetings were held in February and April 2023, with 63 parents/caregivers participating. Moreover, 68 out of 88 children received basic life skills instruction on children's rights, child abuse, human trafficking, and environmental conservation. SCC has collaborated with Projects Abroad since 2007 to provide instruction in health, hygiene, nutrition, first aid, English, and Math. Additionally, stakeholders and local authorities continue to build good relationships and communication with the school supervisor and teachers by regularly following up on children's studies, school attendance, and learning results. Local authorities also provided information, support, and motivation to students and families in areas such as domestic violence avoidance, nutrition, attending school regularly, and completing education. In short, your contribution via GlobalGiving has significantly contributed to promoting children's education and protection in poor and slum communities. For example, the project has provided food, food distribution, and packages to vulnerable families, enhancing their food security and encouraging their children's regular attendance at both state and CBE schools.
