CBE School, a community school in Phnom Penh Capital, has been renting a house since 2007 for almost 16 years. In July 2023, the house owner sold it to a new owner, who decided not to continue the contract for the CBE, indicating a shift in the school's renting practices.
The new CBE school is located in a slum area near the old school, providing easy access for target children to attend school which is situated 3 km away from the old location and is a poor area in the city where many migrants come to find a job. The SCC office and CBE School are currently moved in together. Parents and guardians of children studying at CBE make a living from various jobs, including construction workers, transportation service workers, village security guards, dishwashers, and small businesses. However, these jobs do not provide regular income, especially for families with many children. The high cost of living in the city, especially education, makes it difficult for these families to afford education. CBE is seen as an angel contributing to these children's learning like other rich children.
The SCC-CBE school has been offering advantages to orphans, vulnerable children, and children living with HIV. The school provides spacious classrooms, a playground, and ample storage space for learning materials. The teachers and staff collaborate to enhance efficiency and productivity. They (teachers) are skilled in preparing materials for their children, and children often learn morality and meditation. While the school supervisor observes teachers' learning and teaching. However, there are disadvantages, such as children having to walk to school due to parents' busy with their early morning work, high expenses of renting buildings, water and electricity, and increased demand for learning materials.
Supporting vulnerable children living with HIV and poor young adolescents is crucial for their glorious future. Teachers and students urge philanthropists to join in supporting these children, ensuring they have morality and knowledge for themselves, Cambodia, and the whole world.
