Feed a Child, Support Their Education

For children living in communities affected by poverty and food insecurity, attending school can be a difficult experience when they have little or nothing to eat. A hungry child may be physically present in the classroom but unable to concentrate fully on the lesson in front of them.

At Good Cause Foundation Uganda, we recognize that keeping children in school requires more than providing access to classrooms. Children need to be healthy, nourished and ready to learn.

Our school feeding initiative seeks to provide nutritious meals to children in vulnerable schools while contributing to better attendance, participation, wellbeing and educational outcomes. The program is designed to support children who might otherwise spend the school day hungry or whose families struggle to provide adequate meals.

We want school lunch to become an important part of creating a caring and supportive school environment. A nutritious meal can provide children with the energy they need to participate in lessons, interact with their classmates and continue learning throughout the day.

The project also seeks to strengthen sustainable approaches to school feeding by working with communities and encouraging the use of locally sourced food where possible. This can help connect children's nutrition with local agricultural production and community livelihoods.

Objectives of the Project

To provide regular nutritious meals to children attending vulnerable and underserved schools.
To reduce hunger among learners during school hours and help children remain comfortable and attentive.
To improve concentration and classroom participation by ensuring children have access to food during the school day.
To encourage regular school attendance by creating a more supportive environment for children from food-insecure households.
To contribute to children's health and wellbeing through improved access to nutritious meals.
To support school retention by addressing hunger as one of the challenges that can affect a child's experience at school.
To strengthen sustainable community-based feeding programs that can continue supporting children over time.
To mobilize donors and partners who can help extend school feeding support to more vulnerable children.

A Meal That Helps a Child Learn

For many children growing up in underprivileged and underserved communities, hunger is an everyday challenge. Some children arrive at school without breakfast and may go through several hours of lessons without a proper meal. When a child is hungry, it can become difficult to concentrate, participate in classroom activities, complete assignments, or remain energetic throughout the school day.

Good Cause Foundation Uganda believes that education and nutrition go hand in hand. A child cannot fully benefit from the opportunity to learn if hunger is constantly distracting them. Through our school feeding initiative, we are working to provide nutritious school meals to vulnerable children and create a more supportive environment where they can learn, participate and enjoy being at school.

The project will establish and strengthen sustainable school feeding programs in vulnerable schools. Meals will be prepared with locally available and nutritious foods, helping children receive nourishment while also creating opportunities to support local food producers and communities.

For a child, a school meal can represent much more than food. It can provide energy for lessons, improve their ability to participate, and bring a sense of care and belonging. It can also give parents greater confidence that their children are receiving support while at school.

To contribute to children's health and wellbeing through improved access to nutritious food.
To support a positive learning environment where children can attend classes with greater energy, comfort and dignity.
To strengthen sustainable school feeding programs that can continue serving vulnerable learners beyond short-term interventions.
To engage communities and local food producers where possible, helping connect school feeding with local agricultural livelihoods.
