Project Report | Nov 26, 2024
School Construction 35

By Mabwe Lucien | Project Leader

Our school, Glenn Paige Nonkilling School reopened on September 17, 2024 for the 2024-2025 school year and was not affected by the general strike of teachers in the public sector that began at the start of the school year and has just ended this month (due to the improvement of teachers' living conditions).
For this school year, 112 students are registered in the nursery and primary cycle of our school. Although the Impox epidemic is present in our region, the village of Kazimia and its surroundings are currently spared. The concern comes from the heights of Kazimia, in particular, in the Ngandja forest where there is talk of armed confrontations between the Bantu armed groups of Bembe origin and those of Bafurilu.
The Mleci organization, benefiting from a Hope Crisis fund from GlobalGiving, will establish a drilling well on the site of the School for war displaced persons from the villages of Katondje and Kaboko which will also benefit our students for drinking water.
In this regard, the Director of the School said "Tunashukuru sana GlobalGiving kwa kujali jamii za wa displaced kwa kuwapa maji mazuri na pia hii ita saidia watoto wetu kwa maji safi kwa kuwa hapa vijijini mwetu walio wengi wamefariki na maradhi yakuharisha kwa kunywa maji machafu ya Ziwa Tanganyika" This sentence in Kiswahili means: We thank GlobalGiving very much for helping the displaced people of this area with drinking water which will also help our students because here many people were dying of diarrheal diseases linked to the consumption of dirty water from Lake Tanganyika.
Let us note in passing that currently, this project is under implementation and the displaced persons from 4 target villages (Katondje-Kaboko, Kabumbe, Nabende and Bibokoboko are receiving the ploughing tools and seeds for the October-January growing season.
As for the construction of the School, we have just collected sufficient material (iron bars, cement and bricks) to begin the actual work this December.
We wish our donors a happy end of 2024, that they continue to support us, and that God bless them
