Despite the various and incessant armed confrontations between the belligerents in the middle and highlands of Fizi (between, on the one hand, the Congolese Tutsi Banyamulenge armed groups, supported by the M23, the Burundians of RED Tabara, and Rwanda, and on the other hand, the Bantu armed groups known as Wazalendo, supported by the Congolese National Army and the Burundian Armed Forces), the situation is relatively calm on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, particularly in Kazimia.
The Wazalendo, "Bantu armed groups made up of nationalist locals without any military training fighting the M23 rebels, whom they consider invaders," who control the territory of Fizi, "have largely become somewhat disciplined; they no longer attack the population; this has allowed the gradual return of displaced persons and refugees to their respective villages.
At our school, 21 of the 37 students who had fled have returned and resumed classes. Furthermore, our school is currently on vacation following the closure of the 2024-2025 school year on July 16, 2025.
Preparations for the next school year (2025-2026) are underway: registering new students, purchasing necessary materials, planning breakfasts for students, and setting up new study rooms.
From August 4 to 8, 2025, our teachers will participate in a refresher course organized by the Ministry of National Education's Teachers' Pool in Kazimia.
Regarding construction, we are continuing to purchase construction materials to resume work.
